Along with advising and counseling employers on compliance with employment laws, Katya also prepares employee handbooks, employment agreements, offer letters, and independent contractor agreements. In addition, Katya vigorously defends employers in lawsuits or Charge of Discrimination asserted by employees against employers. Katya also represents employees in employment law matters as well.
In addition to her employment law practice, Katya also practices in Indian and Tribal law in the firm’s Indian and Tribal Practice group, providing general counsel services to Indian tribes and enterprises owned by Indian tribes in various areas of the law, including employment law matters. Katya also prepares employee handbooks for Indian tribes and tribally owned enterprises.
Before joining Sacks Tierney, Katya advised and counseled employers in employment and labor law matters and defended employers in lawsuits and Charges of Discrimination asserted by employees against employers. Katya has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2019 through the present.
At the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, Katya interned at the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, earned a Certificate in Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy, and served as a Third-Year Writer for the Arizona Law Review.
Furthermore, in addition to working in the law school’s employment law clinic, Katya also interned at the Indian Law Project of Nevada Legal Services where she served tribal members of various tribes in Northern Nevada, including the Western Shoshone and Washoe Tribes, in tribal courts on various Indian reservations in Northern Nevada, including Pyramid Lake, Duck Valley, and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony.
